Located at the heart of the mountain resort town of Aviemore the Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort offers a wide range of accommodation and leisure facilities spread out over an expansive site. In addition to its four hotels the resort also boasts 17 luxurious three-bedroom lodges.

Myriad Leisure Facilities

If this isn’t impressive enough the resort also boasts a leisure centre, complete with a swimming pool and water slide, as well as a massive three-storey soft play centre. Also catering to the kids is a great adventure play park and a range of organised activities,  both on site and nearby, these include a dedicated children’s club and a cinema. A giant fun factory, crammed full of thrilling inflatables like bouncy castles and over-sized slide, even pops up in school holidays and on some weekends.

Not Just for Families

The resort is not just for families though. Myriad dining options and a spa ensure its popularity with couples, while golfers and business people are also catered to by the resort’s own golf course (Spey Valley Championship Course) and conference facilities.

Accommodation Choices

The most luxurious hotel is the four star Highlands Hotel, with cosy rooms the right side of tartan cheese, big baths and all mod cons. The Academy, Four Seasons (with its great views of the Cairngorms) and the Aviemore Inn complete the options. The lodges meanwhile are ideal for groups and families with lashings of space. Kick back on your own wooden balcony with a drink on a sunny summer night or grab some fresh Highland produce in town and rustle up a meal in your own kitchen.

Fine-Dining at Aspects

Aspects, as the resort’s fine dining restaurant, is the place for couples with a cosy ambiance. A highlight are the chunky Highland beef steaks; cooked to perfection. True steak lovers can also head to The Steakhouse, situated nearby in the Spey Valley Golf and Country Club. The Highland Food Court meanwhile is open all day with an array of local produce, while the healthiest dining option is Revitalise in the Macdonald Highland Leisure Arena, with salads and lighter bites.

For a real treat the Vital Beauty Spa is on hand with myriad treatments, including hot stone massages, while the resort also has its own golf course, the Spey Valley Championship Course.

Cairngorms National Park

This year round resort is an ideal jumping off point for the Cairngorms National Park. Within nearby Rothiemurchus there are myriad mountain biking trails and walks through the original Caledonian pine forests. Hikers and climbers are tempted by the lofty Cairngorms Mountains, while more sedentary mortals can just catch the mountain railway up to the Ptarmigan restaurant, which has to have the best views of any restaurant in the world. The hotel can organise a range of activities and transfers to the mountain railway are also possible.
