Hazel Cottage reclines on a tree-lined bank just back from the shores of Loch Awe, Scotland’s longest inland loch, and easily one of its prettiest. A scenic but straightforward drive from the Central Belt and a hop, skip and a jump to Oban and the world of ferry opportunities that opens up.

Stunning Location Right on the Shore of Loch Awe

Hazel Cottage enjoys a stunning location with two of the bedrooms boasting views of Loch Awe and the mighty Ben Cruachan lurking high in the background. This is self-catering in style for families as Hazel Cottage boasts piles of games and toys for the kids as well as the exotic Finnish BBQ/Sauna for older visitors. The large outdoor decked area is a winner with all ages.

Loch Awe Views from Master Bedroom

There are four bedrooms. The pick of the bunch is the master bedroom upstairs with its double bed and great views. The twin on the upper level also boasts views, while there is another cosy twin just to the rear. Downstairs there is another double room. All bedrooms are warm and welcoming rather than stuffily luxurious.

Dining Room Enjoys that Spectacular Loch Awe Vista

Self-catering is the only option here. The open plan kitchen diner is great for cooking up a family meal. The dining table itself has views out towards Loch Awe. Alternatively you can sit at the second dining table on the old church pews or even more alternatively smoke your food on the Finnish BBQ and enjoy it out on the big picnic table on the decking with the sound of a burn gurgling past for company. The welcoming arms of the original Loch Fyne Oyster Bar are just half an hour drive away with homegrown oysters, their own smoked fish and lobster landed nearby at Tarbet.

Plenty to Keep Children Occupied

The living room comes with a big wide screen TV. For kids there are more toys and games around than any visiting child will ever have even seen at Christmas, which came in very handy four our daughters and their cousins. That outdoor decking has two seating areas, as well as sun loungers. The Finnish BBQ/Sauna is ideal for evenings spent wrapped in its timber charms relaxing on the animal skins by the warm coals.

Lots to See and Do in and Around Loch Awe

There is a ridiculous amount to see and do in and around the Loch Awe area. Loch Awe Boats (Tel. +44(0)1866-833256) just down the hill from Hazel Cottage rent out a variety of craft whether you want to do the rowing or have a motor to help. Ben Cruachan is great for Munro baggers, but the ‘Hollow Mountain’ is also part of a major hydroelectric scheme and you can take an informative tour of the set-up. Less than an hour’s drive takes you to Oban where myriad ferry day trip options await with Cal Mac. North of Oban the Scottish Sealife Sanctuary is ideal for anyone with young ones keen to look and learn.
