Hefting a toddler around on a hike can be tricky, so we use a baby backpack for our Scottish trips. We got ours from Bushbaby, who do a variety of front loading and back loading packs. Baby backpacks can generally be used for babies from around 6 months until they are around 3 years old, depending on the child’s weight. We also find ours handy for travelling by ferry and even getting out and about at home.
Weighing Up the Options
Getting the lightest one possible worked best for us. We opted for the Bushbaby Lite. We have taken ours up hills in Scotland and overseas and it performed very well. You do need to be surefooted on sloping or loose ground for obvious safety reasons. If you buy one with more storage it adds weight to your already overworked back.

We Liked: Takes the load off wee ones and mummies and daddies alike.
Not So Good: You have to be steady on your feet to ensure safety on rougher ground.
